Karl, if you say adjusting the dist does nothing, then you aren't adjusting it right. Do you know how to adjust the timing? If so, you should do it, or have someone do it for you. If the compression is very high, that and a "rich" carb might account for the dieseling. And, I would rewire it. Since you are dragging the battery and starter so badly with the reworked engine, ignition timing and carb adjustment are more important than ever. RKS
