If you are buying, rebuilding, or troubleshooting an old tractor, just remember - that old thing may have the original ignition wiring from the factory - maybe 50 or 60 years ago. Probably half or more of the ignition problems on this board, problems which lead to who knows how much expense, worry, and delay, not to mention "parts" which aren't needed, could be eliminated by one simple action. Pick up some wire and ring connectors anywhere you want to and carefully remake all the primary ignition wire harness connectors, links, leads, etc. Also, for convenience, and for "safety," consider going ahead and spending the money for new battery cables and spark plug harness wires. This might be $30-40 total, plus your labor. However, it will be well worth it in time and grief saved later. A 50 year old wire may look like new, but it has been through millions of cycles of expansion and contraction, and it has been knocked, pulled, pinched, heated - you name the different types of abuse, including corrosion and rust. Worse, they don't have to completely fail to ruin your operation. Just a partial short will rob the system of the correct voltage tolerances, and old weak unstable wires can "open" at any time from sensitivity to temperature. Do yourself a favor - change them. RKS
