I will look into the light to check timing. The only reason I haven't is the 6 volt compatibility issue for a light. Nobody seems to want to lend me one. I know that timing is a factor. I've moved the distributor a good many times over the years. My "H" never worked better than it is right now, so even if the light says I should shift it, I probably won't. Another writer pointed out that low lead gas may play a factor, so what should the timing really be? I use premium 92 octane gas with a lead additive that may or may not be needed. I just assume that if the points close at tdc, I must be pretty close. I adjust the distributor in a most subtle manner after that! One more thing, the fan belt rock is a good way to check for timing chain slop in a car engine too! With "H" and helical gears it's not as much of an issue. And no I don't remove plugs... but I should!
