Thanks again red. I suspected you would say that. After I've cleaned under there, should I add anything to the oil to break up anything I coulden't get to - or maybe before I pull the pan to loosen it up? The previous owner (of 8 years) said that he used detergent oil (not very often apperently). Could that scum in there be from a non detergent oil that long ago? - The wife is dragging me out the door - no hurry, i'll read your post when I get back from town. By the way, thanks for the quick response.
