This sounds like some of the problems I've heard about. The sign of a good tractor is that it keeps working with out the repairs you noted. I still see a farmer down the road using his 1206 another with two 806's in the field and two farmers with 706's in the weeds. I think now they have made it to the dump. They seemed to have all kinds of problems with the engine being the biggest. It is surprising to me that my 686 with a 312D engine has been great an still going. Some one suggested that this is the same engine the 706 used -- IH must have really fixed it up or maby 2000 vs 2300rpm made the diference. I always wondered why the 686's rpm's seemed low. Also the 686 has a tendancy to stall at low RPM's which seems strange as the cid is very large for the HP.
