I have a 1586 which has been making a loud, high pitched whinning noise that just starts when it wants to. It stops when the clutch is pushed in. Then will most likely start back up when clutch is left out. This has been going on for little while now. Well, this morning when I pushed the clutch in and went to put it in gear, the did not engage. Everything just kept spinning. I could not get into high, low, or rev. I finally just slammed the lever has hard as i could and got it to grind into low. When I was done with it and put it in reverse to put it back in the barn, it went into reverse like it should have. So I tried high and low and had no problems. What might the problem be? Is the clutch going out of it?
