H bull pinion shaft bearing

I replaced the brake band and shaft seals on my "H" tonite on the left side. Disassembled the right hand side. The left side went so well I thought I may be able to get done with brakes and seals Thursday evening after work. BUT after removing right cover and drum I found bull pinion shaft had alot of up and down movement and the left was tight. Upon further inspection I found the outer bearing for bull shaft missing a couple balls. Now my question: What kind of job do I have now? Has anybody replaced these bearings? By looking at the service and parts manuals it appears the shaft will come out after removing the bearing retainer that's behind brake drum. Is this correct thinking? I appreciate any help and /or suggestions, Mike
