Calcium Chloride -- Do I need it in the tires?

It weighs it down a bit I guess, but for grass cutting and a bit of trailering is it necessary?
Why do people use it for plowing or whatever? Why would you need/want to have it?

For field and road tractoring, is it batter to have the tires full, or a little squishy, why is this?
Just looking for some answers to questions I find interesting.
