Save Me From Selling My 300U (or worse)!!

I have had a pet project with my 300u since winter plowing. It has continued to lose power and foul out once warmed up and under a load. I have: 1. Replaced points and plugs cap and rotor. 2. Replaced plug wires. 3. Rebuilt the carb. 4. Attempted unsucessfully to install at reducer between the ignition and coil. (I shorted out the amp meter, so I replaced the meter and then went back to the way it was before)The hypocratic oath for doctors says to not do anything if it will do harm instead of good, I am not a Dr., nor a mechanic at this rate:) 5. Talked nice to it. 6. Talked mean to it. I have a couple of options, but am running out of patience and $ for this beast. 1. Could it be the timing, even though it is smooth when cool? 2. Do I go back to the reducer?, and could my new points been burned up since I last replaced them. (About 40 engine hours ago)? 3. Do I sell it locally, or charge admission when I blow it up to recoup my $:) Thanks for all your guidance so far, I'm eager to be able to do stuff that this thing is meant to do.
