Dan, give Hugh's suggestion a shot first, and you might just double check your fluid level. You should probably also check the condition of your strainer (the temp sending unit mounts in the middle of the end of it on the left side)and clean or replace as necessary. If none of that fixes it, I suspect you're going to have to rebuild the controls. Mine was the other way around - went forward easily, laboring on the back stroke. You can get a rebuild kit from a CaseIH dealer. It's mostly O-rings (lots of 'em!) and a couple of gaskets. It's not a small undertaking, but can be done at home. There is a Service Manual you can get just for that unit that you should have at your side as you work -- invaluable in figuring out just where that little spring rolling around on your benc (or under it!) came from. Probably the most important factors are patience getting things apart (it goes back together easy) and having a clean place to work. Clean up in there as you go and keep everything very clean as you put it back together.
