It is very possible that one of the screws from the choke plate came out or broke off and got sucked up into the cylinder. Had that happen years ago with an M that had Fire Craters in it. Made all kinds of racket when it ran. Took out the spark plug knocked the bolt loose with a screw driver and got the screw out with a piece of gum on a wire. IH mechanic said to replace the screws with brass ones and dont hank on the choke rod so hard. As I remember the tractor had a 4 row wide cultivator on it at the time. Your talking 45 years ago maybe.
