Rebuilding an engine

This isn't exactly Farmall, but darn close and i know you guys would know my solution. i have a four cylinder gas engine, I believe from Ford motor company (used to be in a Gehl skid steer), locked up, most likely from just sitting, but it is only the engine. It is currently sitting in a currently not-being-used skid steer bucket for our big Case. I would like to rebuild it for the heck of it, since it would be no loss if I did something wrong (it will probably be junked soon). What is the best way to position the engine so I can work on it? I have NO CLUE. The thing is actually very small, probably around the car 2.0L engine. Thanks for the information.
