H wont stay in fifth gear

My 42 H will come out of fifth after about a quarter of a mile. I can hold it in gear by placeing my left foot between the steering column and the shift lever or by holding the shift lever by hand,so it dont come with a lot of force. I recall some info from this board that said you could remove the belt pulley gearbox and possibly fix this problem. Can anyone give some advice on this? Thanks Ed
