The drive from the transmission to the liftall turns in such a way that it will tighten the slotted drive coupler as soon as the liftall requires power. Same with the coupler on the liftall pump itself. Tightening it with a pipe wrench is OK, I've found that a square pry bar or bar in the slot works best for me for tightening and loosening the drives. Either way, you're just fine.
