Some of these guys talked about over the road trucking companies using Allison Automatics in highway tractors so they must be efficient. The reason has nothing to do with fuel efficiency. It is all about efficiency though. Rather than pay a good driver a decent wage they have opted for minium wage guys that couldn't go through the gears on an 18 speed anyhow. They put em on the road if they make it fine if they don't it doesn't bugger up a $20,000. transmission. Just the way the trucking industry is being run. Had a guy call couple months back, wanted a driver for long haul. He said we've cut the per mile rate to drivers until fuel prices dropped again. I told him most of the guys I knew were suffering from that same fuel expence. I don't know where this guy figured his drivers were going to live.
