Well, the deed is done. New rod bearings arrived and went in this afternoon. (Thanks IH Ken Updike). Clarence now sounds sweet. Purs like a cat (a large one at that). However... The new rod bearings were exactly .100 inch thick, the front 3 old ones measured in at around .096-.095 Is this normal wear ? Who knows how long it's been. Ol#4 the troubled one was down to .082-.083. I plastiguaged them all and #4 was around .004-.005 clearance, the others were normal around .002 and .003 wtih the new bearings once torqued down. Also the crank may not have been as smooth as I had thought. 1-3 were definately smoother. So I believe I have a troubled motor. One that will need to be taken down and have the crank turned/ground. Any thoughts. Now that #4 isn't knocking, I can hear the lifters, but it's still sounds sweet compared to before. I have more questions now but I'll split up the posts for easier reading.
