My generator on my 48 Super A was running hot and after examining it I found the armature shorted and the rear bushing worn. I replaced both and then polarized the generator by touching the A terminal to the Bat terminal on the regulator. I took the tractor out in the field to do some mowing and notice a pecular smell coming from the tractor. Checked the generator with my hand and it was running warm to hot. COuld keep my hand on there but it was warmer than i though it should be. I would assume that the generator should not be getting on the hot side at all. I know that I have the battery connected to the battery terminal. I think I connected the other wire to the armature connection on the regulator which I think should also go to the ammeter and then to the regulator switch and then to the battery. When the measure the resistance on this wire previously, It had less than an ohm of resistance to ground. I was initially thinking that this was a ground connection back to the battery, but now realize that it is connecting to the output of the generator. Would shorting the output of the generator to ground cause the generator to run hot? Any other input on what might be causing the heating of the generator?
