super m meets 12 volts

I just snagged a 12v battery, plug wires, and 12v coil off a donor truck i have behind the shed, stuck em on the super m (because I already have them, dont want to spend much right now), and now i have a miss at WOT that wasnt there before. Truck has a resistor in the supply line to the coil, would it help to wire that into the m? Charging doesnt seem to be a problem ampmeter claims its pushing about 20 amps into the battery.
