Mr. MacKay, I sure did hold down the clutch while doing this. The tractor did not appear to shift hard but it has always been a little tough to come out of reverse or 1st gear. However I was shifting just fine between reverse, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, not 5 minutes before. Not sure what gear it is stuck in, was in second--shifting to third and when I let out the clutch, the engine started to stall. When into the archives and did a search. The major suggestion was to remove the shifting tower and move the slides with a screw driver. Well I removed the shifting tower and the slides will not move. Looking into the shifting tower hole at the slides from behind the tractor left side of the operators station: left most slide and middle slide are lined up. Right most slide is forward the other two. Seems to be a sort of bracket that surrounds the middle slides and is notched(like the slides). This bracket does not appear designed to move. None of the slides are aligned with this bracket(and the the all are ahead of the notch)-the left and middle slides are about 1/2 way aligned with the notch on the bracket, right slide is well forward the bracket. Once again--any help is apprecited as I really do not want to call IH dealer to come and get this to fix. Would really be a chore getting a rollback into the field to pull this 400 out. Not to mention cost prohibative. Thanks!

Cylinders are the reason for the hydraulic circuit. They take the fluid power delivered from the pump and magically change it into mechanical power. There are many types of cylinders that one might run across on a farm scenario. Each one could take a chapter in
