antifreeze in the oil

Changed oil couple of days ago and the oil was milky. I looked at it today and antifreeze was in the bottom of the oil pan. It does not have white smoke. What could have happened? Could it be a head gasket or worse? How to I diagnose the reason? thanks for your responses. dw
