I used to have a Woods mower on a 140 Farmall. As I recall, the manual says to use oil, not grease in the spindle bearings. Of course the idler bearings are sealed. I used oil in mine (had to rig a grease gun to use oil) for 18 years. Never had a spindle bearing go bad, although I did have to replace the idler bearings. As I recall, I used 90 wt gear oil in the spindle bearings. For high speed bearings like those spindles, oil is a much better lubricant.
