You might pull the starter off and make sure that it isn't caught on the ring gear. Make sure that the ground cable is making a good, clean, secure ground. By push button starter are you talking about a converted 12v system. If so you can short across the start button to see if the button is good. If you have the original button located on the side of the starter those only cost about $15.00 and are easy to replace. Just a couple of things to check.
