overhauling 656 gas

at a rut, on a tight budget, and have little equipment (tools etc.). 656 gas needs the overhaul bad.
partsman says "crank must come out" I&T manual says "tractor must be split" and "remove sleeves with a suitable puller."
borrowing a neighbor's shed, no overhead beams...
need advice and poorman's setup (but one that works good) for splitting the tractor and then removing the sleeves. no rental place in the area has sleeve pullers!!! borrowed shop is on a short time schedule as well...
how hard to handle is the 6 cyl block? are the front assemlies really awkward/unbalanced when split?
