I posted before about an IH 240 that could not be put in gear with the engine running. Well, I bought the tractor without starting it, but first I tried all 4 gears by rocking the tractor, clutch out, and the fan moved each time. Next in neutral, I rocked it and got no fan movement. While winching it up to the back of the trailer, I put it in 4th gear and the tires dug in the ground for 3-4 feet. Put it in neutral and loaded it. After unloading I clamped the clutch down, put it in gear and rocked it. There was no fan movement in any gear. Do you think the "engine off to put in gear" (stuck clutch) problem was fixed by dragging in 4th? Or could I still have a tranny problem? I went to change oil and filter before starting and found two filter gaskets. The bottom one has turned into stone and I've spent 1/2 hour getting 1/4 of it out. It's probably been there 30 years.
