Pete, I just got my grandfather's 1936 F-20 running after a 5-year restoration. The first time she moved under her own power for 35 years. It was a GREAT day. I know what you are talking about on the hole and flywheel, but I have indicators stamped into the face of the flywheel. When I had the flywheel out, I wire-brushed it and painted the face silver to show the marks. I can easily see the DC mark, along with EO, EI, etc marks. You may have to run a pressure washer through the hole to see the marks. They may be covered in grease or rust. They will not be directly in the center of the view port, but close to the pointer/pin. I believe there are some holes in the flywheel but these don't mean anything. As for the crank pin, the manual may be refering to the actual pin in the nose of the crankshaft, not the starting crank. My starting crank setup is quite loose and worn from many years, and may not be the best indicator of engine position. Let me know if I can help further. JG
