The 6 volt starter will work ok, but may eventually break the starter drive, since it slams in gear much harder with 12 volts. If you want, you can have an auto electric place rewire the field coils. I cant remember for sure, but I think the coils are wired in series for 6 volts and paralell for 12. I would not worry too much about it. I have 12 volts on my cub and it works fine.
