Jim, I have two 300 farmalls, one 1955 gas model and a 1956 model on propane. The 1955 machine has the petcocks and the 1956 one has the dipstick. The tractors were in my family in the 1970's when I was a kid and my dad worked for a harvester dealership. The dealership owner told me when I questioned him about it that the 1955 300's and 400's were "transition" tractors from the Super H and M's and that some of the early ones were built with the old style pans installed. I have one of each and have to check them both differently. Hope this helps. Van
