300 dipstick

Just curious...the manual and service guide for my 300 refer to an oil dipstick, but my 300 doesnt have one.Instead it has the petcock on the oilpan like an H. Its a legit 300..C169 manufactured in Feb 55 according to casting code.
Was it an option or standard? I saw a reference to distallate engines not having one, but mine shows no sign of ever being a distallate engine.
Not important, Im just curious. anyone have any ideas?
