Hugh, I agree with what you are saying, and maybe IH just used a few H pans that were found in the mess in the warehouse on later models. I wish they kept better records in those days, wouldn't it be great if we could get a copy of the original build sheets and invoices to see how a certain one was equipped from the factory and where and who bought it? Ive seen some wierd variations of the same model and year. I knew a guy that has his dads H from 1946 that is in fact a X1 serial number, but has a distillate tank setup and shutters too. The guy is older than me and swears the tractor is original and was bought new that way. What a mess, eh? Have a great day, Van
