Any info would be appreciated. I have an opportunity to buy a 1942 Farmall A. It is complete, rear sickle bar, new tires and a crack in the block. The owner put some J.B. weld on the crack but eventualy failed. The selling price is $100.00 .With out seeing it, any thoughts on how successful a weld job can be. How availible are parts and implements? I really don't need a tractor but I will be buying one. I would like to move snow, cut grass, and general yard work etc.. I was also considering a Ford 8n at $1500.00. Again, I don't need a tractor (yet) but it would be nice to have something that isn't too limited.

The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
