H hyd pump

I have a '40 H and sometime within the past 59 years someone has removed the hydraulic pump from the tractor and engineered it. I am wanting to put a front end loader on this tractor and I am going to be putting a pump in it. What I need to know is if anyone can tell me what I am going to get into. Can this be done without splitting the tractor or does it need to come apart? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks
