B Bauman, this is just some finer points to what has been said. Water goes to the bottom and the oil floats on top, if you drive the tractor the oil and water mix to make an emulsion that will be carmel coloured about like cardboard. If you let you tractor sit for a few days until the water has sunk to the bottom you can let it off without changing the oil in the rear at that particular time, of course the water cannot be in the frozen mode. Just undo the rear drain plug slowly and about the last turn or two the water should start seeping out, let it run until you see gear oil coming...I took a gallon and a half of water out of an H I bought this way...I did change the rear oil as soon as it was convenient. Another H I have was so clogged with sludge that I had to stick a screw driver into the drain hole, then the water flowed and then oil...any Farmall that has been outside in its life will likely have water in the rear gear oil......good luck and let us know how it goes..Mike in Exeter Ontario
