560 wide front mounting holes

Yesterday I tried to put a wide front on my 560 and everything was going too smoothly. The narrow front came off with no problems, the wide front (from a 544) rolled into place and everything lined up perfectly. It was too good to be true. When I started tightening the 4 front bolts, it felt like the bolts were bottoming out. I checked the hole depth and there is plenty of room for the bolt. Is it possible that the holes are not tapped completely?
