Hello I am currently looking at a farmall A with a loader/plow combo on the front. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some details. I really don't know much about old tractors and I am looking for one for my father in law as a snow clearing/road grading tractor. Obviously he doesn't want too large of one. We get around 100" of snow per year where I live. Right now he plows with his garden tractor and it takes him awhile to get done. His lane is about 1/2 mile at least. Anyway would this tractor do well at plowing snow and some light road work in the summers? The one i'm looking at appears to be in ok shape. A 1944 model I believe by serial. Maybe a 43. The hydro pump is on the rear PTO unit. It has dual rear wheels and about 300lb of rear weight. The tin is so so. not that good really but not falling off yet. The nose is mashed in some as well. Obviously Paint is bad. I am just wondering if it is worth it to invest the cash into this machine ($1700). The owner said there are no cracks in the block and no blue smoke but that it does have a weak starter that needs replaced. Tires are average to bad. I think that is all the info I have really. Just looking for some overall opinions as to if its worth the money or not. thanks.

"It's a tough little tractor, although it's a hard starter being a diesel and all." He did manage to get it running, compliments of a can of ether. Once started it putted along pretty good. It
