Art, I am going to be removing the rad. on my '48 H in the next few weeks too... I am thinking that the procedure you mentioned is correct. Perhaps you'll see more responses. Would be interested in your success. I puttered all Fall and Winter on this old H that hadn't run for close to 20 years. Tried it the other weekend and it started and ran just fine but... a few water leaks; rad. hoses, water jacket cover, and a pin hole in the core. Not knowing much about rads., I'm wondering if JB Weld would fix this small hole I have on the outside of the core(where something must have poked it). Anyway, good luck with your project. Chris F.
