The H can have the trans work done without splitting the tractor. The clutch and all associated parts in the clutch housing will need to be removed, and the trans input carrier removed, and then the shafts can be accessed/removed from the tractor. time consuming, but easy to do. Like stated earlier, check for worn gears, worn shafts, and also check the detent balls & springs that hold the shift forks (under shift forks).
