I have the rear end apart on my '47 M, what started all of this was last year I changed rear end oil & as I was flushing it out with diesel fuel I found some metal fragments & they looked like the part of a ball bearing that keeps the ball spaced apart...This afternoon I removed the right axle & bearings & all looks ok, one thing I noticed, is the outer bearing supposed to have a seal on one side to keep trans oil out of the bearing or was there changes made that let oil into the outer bearing? this one is open on both sides.... I am wondering if the scrap pieces were left in there from a previous repair or if I should keep digging to see if everything is ok in there now, I would hate to have to go back in later if there is a problem in there now. One more thing, in the oil troughs on both sides of the front compartment there are filings almost ready to get into the differential bearings, would the filings go right into the bearings or would they go into the gear teeth first?
