sediment bowl assembly (on Farmall M)

I don't have a magnet I could use in the gas tank to pick up rust flakes, but I did try holding a magnet against the sediment bowl assembly (the part that screws into the gas tank), and that didn't seem to have any effect on whatever is blocking it. No matter where I put the magnet, there was still only a trickle of gas coming out at the carburetor end of the gas line (the valve was open all the way). I haven't been able to get the part that screws into the gas tank to turn. Do you think it would be a good idea to use vise-grips on it?
