Oiling the bendix and shaft didn"t hurt anything but that is not what caused it to lock. It"s when the teeth on the bendix and also the teeth on the flywheel become worn that things tend to lock up once in a while. It probably won"t happen again for quite a while, but if it starts to become a problem for you it"s time to replace the ring gear on the flywheel.
