Tony - Your description sounds like you've got governor set up correctly. Might be a problem inside the governor itself (broken thrust bearing or sticking output shaft), or a sticky throttle shaft on the carb. With the motor off and the governor control set on "slow" does the carb linkage move easily and freely??? You certain you've got the right alternator there? If it's got a separate regulator, the correct alternator will have the 2 field terminals in the back face of the alternator and arranged in parallel like this: | |. If the terminals plug into the outside edge of the alternator and are in line (like this - - ) you've got an internally regulated alternator. This does not require an external regulator - it must be wired differently in order to work. Let me know which you've got and we'll go from there... Bob
