Winter is here, and I should be pulling our old H in the shop for it's motor change after it threw a rod through the side of the block earlier this year. I actually thought of trying to stick an aluminum block 353 detroit diesel in it, but decided I wanted to keep the tractor original and I managed to get a good used block from a junk tractor for free, but right now as it sits it's practically a bare block with nothing but the cam installed and I'd have to transfer all the components from the failed block to the new doner block, but of course with new sleeves, pistons and rings installed and I think I will have to go with new rods too because the one that let go got kinda chewed up alittle and I'm unsure at this point if my crankshaft is any good in the failed block. I was kinda leaning toward trying a detroit conversion soon after the engine failed simply because I love the 2 cycle sound and thought it might be pretty cool to have something different, but then I decided I wasn't very interested in going around to shows, and I wanted a tractor to use that was going to be reliable, and the detroit turns at a higher RPM (2,300RPM, I think) than the original 1,750 max RPM gasoline engine, so that would mess up the gearing, and I don't want a tractor geared for racing for farm use and for the price of the detroit I could buy another H and forget about the one I have. I was also afraid I would end up with a tractor that would be unreliable due to the original H radiator not being big enough to sufficiently cool it and I'm not interested in hacking up the hood trying to stuff a bigger radiator in there, chances are it wouldn't work too well and I'd end up with an ugly looking piece of junk. Next I wonder just how many horses that stock H tranny and rear end could take, after all, the M is rated for just 10HP more and look at how much bigger the castings are, so if I was to stick an engine in it that created 90hp at the flywheel, would I have me something that would destroy itself if I ever decided to try and use that horsepower?.
Sorry for my winter ramblings, I'm not for sure why I typed all that other than I'm curious as to others opinions on it. I've basically already made up my mind at this point to put it back to stock form and, after all, it would be the safest and also the cheapest route to go to make sure I'd still have a good useable tractor in the end instead of dumping thousands of dollars in it only to produce a piece of junk that I couldn't even begin to get my money back out of.

Today's Featured Article - The Cletrac General GG and the BF Avery A - A Bit of History - by Mike Ballash. This article is a summary of what I have gathered up from various sources on the Gletrac General GG and the B. F. Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac. ... [Read Article]
