kfox, If your tractor has the starter switch mounting hole in the rear fuel tank support and the hole in the steering post, then it would be safe to say that that is the way it came from the factory. The later ones that had the switch mounted opposite the amp box did not have the mounting hole in the fuel tank support. As to the seat issue, it is my understanding that the early models, including 1941, could be equipped either with an unpadded seat which would have been the bare pan painted red, or a black canvass seat. Silver canvass didn"t appear until after WWII. Someone may correct me on this, and if so, fine, because I"d like to know the break off dates from black to silver canvass.
