The change from black to silver canvas is not indicated in the parts book -- for the 1939-early 1940 pan, and the pans for the other seats, it indicates they were all upholstered -- that may not be 100% true, since the book is for replacement parts that will fit the tractor, they do not have to be identical to the seat or other parts that actually came on the tractor. My dad had a prewar H, but I don't remember the year or the seat color, and a late 1947 H, that had, I believe, silver canvas. By the time I started driving it in 1950, most of the original canvas was gone, so we used whatever we could find for a seat cover. The canvas was not durable at all, which is why I use vinyl on my tractors.
