Paul, your main clutch and TA clutch linkages are out of adjustment. When you depress the clutch pedal, the main clutch and TA clutch both disengage. As you know, whenever the the TA clutch disengages, it is possible for the TA ramp and rollers to engage. Your pedal linkage is not totally disengaging the TA clutch, just enough that the ramp and rollers grab, creating the effect of being in Direct Drive and TA at the same time. This causes the whole transmission to bind up, making it hard to get out of gear. This makes the worn shifter problem much worse. I would say that you don't need to build up the end of your shift lever yet, just go through the adjustments.
