Super-A: two pieces of wire in cylinder head.

Got my cylinder head back from the machine shop and couldn't believe the difference. The odd thing was that I noticed a metallic 'clink' noise as I was carrying the head back to my truck. Thought that was odd. Got home and looked for loose valve stuff and could find none. Finally took a mag light and focused it into the water cavity. Found two wires, one 17" and straight and another 12" with two bends (one at each end). Both were easily fished out with a hemostat. My question is: are they supposed to be there? Are they something left over from the casting process? They look as though they have been in the head since it was made.
