Your "brand-new waterproof canvass" probably held in humidity around the tractor and added to the rusting and sticking of the clutch. If you have the time, block the pedal down for a day or two. Sometimes a sticky clutch will pop free on it's own when the pressure has been off for a while. Otherwise, driving it around while depressing the clutch, and jerking the tractor with the brakes will probably do the trick. It's not really any worse than if the tractor was being used for fieldwork, and a steering brake was applied hard at each end of the field to aid in turning.
