Probably leaking past the o-rings around the outside of the sleeves. That's pretty common with these older German diesels. With the amount of work involved to remove the sleeves, you're almost better off just overhauling the whole engine. Remember, it is just short of 40 years old, even if it runs great, it will run/start even better after an overhaul. Don't run it like it is, it only had a couple drips when you pressure tested it cold, but it will really start leaking when you get a full load on it.
