All I'm doing is probably contributing to rumors, but I did read somewhere that Deering was dropped because of the "last family member thing". I doubt if I could find that statement now if I looked, or whether it is reliable info. Cyrus McCormick and (forgot his 1st name) Deering got along, but perhaps the families were not the best of friends -- I would like to know when the last direct Deering descendant, what ever that means, either died or left the company. Also had forgotten that Brooks was related by marriage to the Deerings. Anyway the Deering name was easier to get rid of than McCormick. I would also like to know if your 53 has the original decals.
