It sure sounds like it. Make sure when you start timing it, you have #1 cylinder at the compression cycle. Take out spark plug, and hand crank until the compression pushes your finger out of plug hole. At this point you can check to make sure rotor is pointed at #1 on your distributer cap.... note rotation of rotor, and double check to make sure wires are plugged in correctly. I'm guessing you may have installed mag 180 degrees off.
