ether injection on 1086

I can't seem to get my ether injection system working on my 1086. its got power down to the soleid. when I hold the thing up side down it seems to work or at least the ball inside of it goes back and forth. any ideas? also do these tractors take special ether cans? what normally goes wrong with these systems or is it cheaper to just buy a new one? thanks
